Maurizio Baglini (Piano)

Conductor: Brian Wright

Enescu – Romanian Rhapsody No.1

Chopin – Piano Concerto No.1

Prokofiev – Symphony No.5

Here’s a colourful opening to our season, with Romanian gypsy rhythms in Enescu’s flamboyant Rhapsody and Russian fireworks in Prokofiev’s sparkling 5th Symphony. As soloist we welcome one of Italy’s finest younger pianists, Maurizio Baglini, who made a much praised DVD of Chopin’s well-loved 1st Concerto recently in Tokyo.

Maidstone Leisure Centre, Mote Park, Maidstone.

Maurizio Beglini was awarded the 1994 Concorso Busoni's 6th prize (ex-aequo with William Fong) and received a Diploma of Honour at the 1995 Fryderyk Chopin Competition. He subsequently was awarded the 1998 William Kapell Competition's 3rd prize, and was therefore invited to took part at the next year's World Music Piano Master in Montecarlo, which he won.

Baglini is internationally active as a concert pianist. Among his recordings there's a period performance of Fryderyk Chopin's Etudes for Phoenix Classics. He has also recorded Ernest Chausson's Double Concerto for violin, piano and string quartet together with Pavel Berman, his teacher's Lazar Berman son.
