Soloist
- Ben Hancox (Violin)
Conductor: Brian Wright
Vaughan Williams - Overture , The Wasps
Nielsen - Violin Concerto
Sibelius - Symphony No. 1
We welcome back Kentish bred violinist Ben Hancox for his third visit to
MSO to play Nielsen's delightful neo-classical Violin Concerto.
Sibelius' tense and broodingly original 1st Symphony nevertheless
owes much to the Russian heritage, particularly to the symphonies of
Tchaikovsky. We start with one of the best known shorter pieces by
Vaughan Williams, his splendidly descriptive overture, The Wasps.
The Concert starts at 7.30pm in Mote Hall, which is within the
Maidstone Leisure Centre, Mote Park, Maidstone.

Ben Hancox has played the violin since the age of four. He studied with
Serguei Fatkouline in Madrid and Bonn and with Felix Andrievsky, at the
Royal College of Music.
At the RCM Ben won both the major violin prizes. He left with a first
class honours degree and was awarded a distinction in his postgraduate
diploma in performance. During his undergraduate studies, Ben received the
prestigious Emily English Scholarship, from the Musician's Benevolent Fund.
He was then awarded the Associated Board scholarship for his postgraduate
studies.
Ben is first violinist and founder member of the
Sacconi Quartet, and with them has
toured Britain and abroad. They have won numerous international awards, and
are constantly in demand on the chamber music circuit. As a chamber musician
and soloist, he has collaborated with many renowned artists and orchestras.
