How many symphonies did Mahler compose?
Mahler was in the
process of composing his tenth symphony when he died. A rough draft has
been found, and some orchestras have actually performed it. However, it
is safe to say that Mahler composed NINE symphonies
 For
much of Mahler's life, composing was a part-time activity, secondary to
conducting, and was confined to symphony and song writing. There
was one piece written outside this area. What was it?
The Piano Quartet in A minor was written around 1876. Only the
first movement survives.
